How to determine materials needed

First, determine the approximate deck dimensions and the width of spacing between slats. To figure the dimension that is perpendicular to the length of the slats, use this formula:

1. Add 5-1/2'' to spacing desired (minimum of 1/16'', maximum of 3/16).

2. Divide the width of your desired dimension by the number from Step 1. This tells you how many slats you will need. Round up or down to the nearest whole number.

3. Multiply the number from Step 2 by the number from Step 1. Add one unit of spacing. This is the actual outside dimension of your deck substructure.

Royal Outdoor Deck - Easy Installation Steps

Installing your Royal deck is a quick and easy do-it-yourself procedure. And, because the materials are so light in weight, you won't require a lot of help. A couple can easily handle this project as there are only three easy steps:

Step One
Determine the quantity of material you will need. Using a circular saw with fine-tooth blade, carefully cut deck bases and tops to required dimensions.

Step Two
Lay out the deck bases, spacing them between 1/16" to 1/8" apart, and attach to deck joists, using two screws at each joist intersection. When installing the screws, be careful not to over-tighten.

Step Three
Install the deck cap (top) into the base and press firmly into the channels until it locks in place. That's it! What could be simpler!

How to determine your deck and railing material requirements

• Measure length of each side of deck from position of first post to last post.
• Maximum distance 6' on-center per section.
• For each linear run divide total length by six; round up result to next whole number (this tells how many sections to buy for each side).
• Divide total length by number of sections to get center-to-center distance for post placement.
• After posts are set, trim end of completed rail section to fit in rail adapters before installing in post.

Example:

Center first to last post: 20 ft.
Divide 20/6 = 3.3.
Round up to 4, so buy 4 sections.
Divide 4 sections into 20 feet = 5.
Set posts 5 feet on center.
